Domestic skip hire info
Collins Skip Hire has been a key player in the skip hire market across Suffolk and Essex for many years.
We provide a cost effective, reliable and efficient service, with next day delivery during the week. Our four operational centres located across the region ensure we are always local to you!
We have skips to suit every job – whether for domestic use or major commercial projects. They range in size from 3 to 40 cubic yards – our handy dimensions chart will help to find the right one for you.
If you are unsure which size would be best, please call a member of our experienced team for advice
USEFUL TIPS
- A 6 yard skip is the maximum size for soil/hardcore due to legal weight restrictions (7.5 tonnes).
- Roll-on containers require large areas and are almost always for commercial sites.
- Only fill the skip to a level load – otherwise the driver might refuse to take an overloaded skip.
- We take a wide range of waste although some are non-permitted such as liquids and those regarded as hazardous, please see the list below. Non-compliant wastes need to be handled differently and will involve an extra cost, please see list of non-permitted waste below.
- Think about where you are putting the skip and whether overhead wires, low branches and manhole covers might pose an access problem.
- Please be aware that traffic at peak periods can have an impact on delivery times.
- If we can’t drop the skip within the grounds of your property then it will be placed at the nearest roadside location. In this case the skip will require lighting and a permit from the local highways, we can manage this process for you. Please call us for any help and advice

SKIPS ON ROAD
No Driveway or private land to place the skip on?
We offer the option of skips on the road up to 8 cubic yards within Suffolk and Essex.
A good working relationship has been built over time with the highways agency’s allowing us to discuss with them where you require your skip, which allows us to guide you in the best way possible.
They can take up to 6 working days in Essex and 5 in Suffolk so if you want a skip on the road then some preplanning will be required.
We apply for the licence, we supply the lights, cones and signs if required too. You just book with us and we will advise of the best placement for the skip.
WAIT AND LOADS
If you have a delivery coming the following day but the waste is in the way, why not ask about our wait and load service?
Wait and loads on the road will still require a permit to ensure we are compliant with highway regulations.
We allow up to 15 mins load time before any charges will apply, so be sure to have your waste ready to load.
With enough notice we can do a same day pick up if this is local to our normal service areas.
Wait and loads work well with runs into Norfolk for asbestos or contaminated soils, we can reduce the cost of the haulage by only having one trip there and back instead of two, this helps keep your costs down too.
